When you raise pigs as they were intended to it becomes obvious how far away we’ve strayed from what pork should look and taste like. Here at Halverson Family Farm where we rotationally graze our pigs we’ve found that pork is not actually white like the industrial farmers would have you believe.

The pigs we work with are called Idaho Pasture Pigs. A breed developed for their temperament(ours regularly lay down for belly rubs), tendency towards grazing, and excellent mothering ability.

Their diet includes a custom hog feed containing only organic and/or non-gmo ingredients along with all they can eat out on pasture. During the Minnesota winters we pen our pigs and supplement with hay.

As they are a partially grazing pig they do take a little longer to grow out to market weight than some other breeds but the wait is worth it as the extra time allows the pig to convert all the lush greenery it eats into nutritious and delicious pork that you can feel good eating!
